Augusta Bay, Llanelli
Powell Dobson Architects
Augusta Bay is a five bedroom house that forms part of the final phase of the wider exemplar Pentre Nicklaus development in Llanelli. Designed to maximise the uninterrupted views to the South West, key concepts include the softening of the boundary between internal and external spaces, first floor living, and a local stone wall which highlights the main axis through the house towards the view. The site is made up of two undeveloped plots; developing it as a single dwelling has ensured that the potential of the site is maximised in terms of layout and quality of spaces, easing the density of the compact site.
The house has been orientated to maximise passive solar gain through large areas of glazing while large vaulted internal spaces regulate the temperatures and prevent overheating during summer. PV cells and triple glazed bi-fold and sliding doors all contribute towards the lowering of energy bills and long term running costs.
