This is a residential development consisting of a terrace of 3no. 2-bedroom mews houses, delivered on a challenging and confined site in Camden, London. The site area of 280m² is overlooked by neighbours whose rear elevations are 7 metres from the site boundaries. This context presented a challenging design and construction opportunity. Each house is carefully detailed and designed to maximise light, space and storage. There are two bedrooms at first floor level and an accessible WC on the ground floor, designed to convert to a level access shower room.
A bespoke folded metal screen and entrance gate provides privacy and security while remaining welcoming when backlit at night. At dusk, a low-level illuminated ray of crushed recycled glass, activated via a photocell, guides one to the entrance of the house. Fire protection measures are implemented using a Mist Suppression System, providing complete protection to all rooms. There is a bio-diverse living green roof to provide diverse plant communities, increasing energy efficiency, minimising rainwater runoff volumes and enhancing the appearance for those overlooking.
