Blockchain Technology has been with us now for just over 10 years and came to fame as the technology behind Bitcoin, but what is the blockchain and is it all just hype?

In 1990 a philosopher called George Gilder wrote in his book, Life after Television that, “The computer of the future…[will] be as portable as your watch and as personal as your wallet. It…[will] recognize speech and navigate streets, collect your mail and your news…” Few would have believed him at that time and yet his new book Life after Google is subtitled “The Fall of Big Data and the Rise of the Blockchain Economy”.

In this talk Michael Lawrence, a Chartered Civil Engineer, Chartered Construction Manager and qualified arbitrator, walks you through the basics of blockchain and smart contracts explaining why it has the potential it does and what it means for the future of construction.
