London: social housing policy seminar

Conference 8.30 am-2 pm, 24 Apr 2018
Greater London

Discuss social housing quality and funding

Next steps for social housing policy in England

This seminar takes place following the Prime Minister’s recent confirmation of an extra £2bn of funding for council and housing association homes and the introduction of a long-term rent deal from 2020.

It also follows the announcement of a Government green paper on social housing in England which will review key issues, including the quality of social homes, service management, the rights of tenants, homelessness, and the role for social housing in supporting communities and local economies.

Delegates will discuss the implementation of the Government’s Housing White Paper: Fixing our broken housing market, which includes changes to planning policy, a £3bn fund for smaller building firms, and the creation of a stand-alone regulator for social housing.

In the context of the inquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire, attendees will also assess what more can be done to improve standards and the safety of social housing, and further sessions will consider the challenges for meeting the housing requirements of vulnerable groups and priorities for housing in devolved areas in England.
