ARGO launches first for Ireland

How a CIAT Registered Practice in ROI have adopted BIM

Update from a CIAT Registered Practice:

"There’s no doubt that BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology is radically transforming the construction industry in Ireland. The growth of industry adoption over the last 5 years has not been met by a sufficient increase in the supply of BIM trained professionals. Until recently, access to additional resources trained in this new way of working has been very limited. But now, with the official Ireland launch of ARGO CTE (Centre of Technical Expertise) www.argo-ds.com/cte and offices based in central Dublin, our architectural technologists are available to our clients, developers, contractors and architectural design firms to provide design development services through BIM, delivering 15-20% cost savings over conventionally delivered projects. Established in the Caribbean since (2013) the ARGO CTE service now operates cross continental between Barbados and Ireland allowing a standard work day of 13 hours. Recent wins of residential developments in Dublin and the BIM design development of Bermuda’s new international airport are testament to the growing demand in the marketplace." That’s according to ARGO’s founder and managing director David Campion, BSc, MCIAT, RIAI (Arch.Tech).

Why BIM matters

BIM is arguably the most important development in a decade in the practice of Architectural Technology (the creative innovative design discipline rooted in science and engineering). In addition to cost savings, BIM – an intelligent 3D model-based process – gives architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure.

“TECHIE DROP” service

As the only business of its kind solely focussed on design development, ARGO CTE’s ambition is to become the leading architectural technologist resource in Europe and the Caribbean.

Its “Techiedrop” service provides Architectural Technologist expertise to any office or site in any location around the world (or can work remotely from Dublin), to assist developers, contractors and architectural design practices in safeguarding the design development and delivery stage of any construction or infrastructure project. Techiedrop has deployed staff into 11 countries to date to work on projects which include data centres, airports, hotels, offices and retail developments.

Experienced, creative and innovative, ARGO CTE’s technologists are Autodesk certified BIM professionals and can also provide technical input on a more traditional 2D CAD delivery.

They provide logical, detailed solutions using construction technologies to form the link between design and delivery, underpinned by science and engineering, essential to the design of buildings and structures. In addition, they can work seamlessly alongside an existing design team or can provide full design development services on behalf of the client.

ARGO CTE’s architectural technologists are currently working on live projects throughout the Caribbean and Ireland, a number of which have been delivered using the latest BIM technology.

About ARGO

ARGO CTE is an initiative from ARGO Development Studio, (www.argo-ds.com). A design practice whose work includes architecture, master planning, interior design, conservation and infrastructure projects, the business was established by David Campion in Barbados in 2013. In addition to BIM, it also provides development consultancy services to assist clients in safeguarding the project journey, from concept to completion.

The business has now worked in over 22 countries to date, on a number of cross sectoral projects for brands including Virgin, Digicel, London Life, Marriott, Radisson, Sandals, Mercedes and Suzuki along with a number of developers and governments in the Caribbean. ARGO has won International Property Awards, in 2016 with the Team that delivered the Marriott Hotel in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and in 2017 for Ozone’s Corporate Head Offices and Experience Store in Barbados.

ARGO currently has 8 fulltime employees working at its central Dublin office under the direction of CTE leader Adam Campbell. An additional 8 members of the team are based in Barbados with other staff in-situ at project satellite offices around the Caribbean which include St Kitts, St Vincent, Tortola, St Maarten, Dominica and Bermuda.
