CIAT signs the Tree Charter

Inspired by 800 year old 'Charter of the Forest'

6 November 2017 is the 800th anniversary of the Charter of the Forest, an adjunct to the Magna Carta which established rights and responsibilities over England's woodlands.

On the anniversary. the Charter for Trees, Woods and People will be launched, supported and signed by CIAT, which updates and builds on the original Charter.

The Charter aims to 'join the dots' between all the different areas of society
in which trees give benefits so that it can recognise and protect the true value of trees to society.

Organisations involved are from a variety of industries. This includes commercial forestry, health, wildlife conservation and many more.

The Charter is comprised of ten principles, covering planting, protection and useage of trees. Of particular importance to Architectural Technology is principle number six, promoting the inclusion of trees in new developments.

The signing will take place in Lincoln Castle, home of one of the only two surviving copies of the 1217 Charter.
