Members address BIM gathering

The third instalment of the bi-annual CITA BIM gathering took place over two days on  23 and 24 November in Croke Park. The event has become a staple in the Irish AEC industry events and this year saw the gathering of big names within the BIM sphere.

The event was opened by Minister Pat Breen who spoke of the digital transformation happened in the AEC industry and the recently announced government strategy to increase use of digital technology in key public works projects. The minister alluded to the release of the Roadmap to Digital Transformation document by the National BIM Council of Ireland in the coming weeks. This document is now available from the CITA website.

The event received keynotes from many of the world leading figures in the Digital Construction sphere. The speakers induced Bidal Succar speaking on BIM adaption policies, Paul Doherty on the uptake of BIM in Scotland, Dr Ilka May on the work of the EU BIM Task Group and the infamous David Philips on the proposed move towards BIM Level 3 in the UK.

Some CIAT members were among the many speakers at the event. Gordon Chisholm MCIAT spoke of the international collaboration projects ongoing between Waterford Institute of Technology and Sheffield University. David Comiskey MCIAT spoke on the use of gaming technology in the digitisation of the industry while Malachy Mathews ACIAT (pictured) gave talks on the role of management in BIM and the increased research into the use of Blockchain to decentralise some of the current workflows.
