Three Dublin construction sites now closed over Covid

A construction project on Dublin's South Great George Street, understood to be a Premier Inn, and an education campus in Grangegorman, north Dublin closed temporarily last week because of Covid concerns.

They brought the number of sites in the Irish capital shutting down because of coronavirus to three.

The first was a hotel and apartment complex on Townsend Street, being built by John Paul Construction. Testing of workers at that site revealed between 25 and 30 positive cases.

A Premier Inn is being built by contractor Elliot Group on South Great George's Street, where one worker tested positive.

Elliot Group Managing Director Darragh Elliot said the site would be closed for an electro-static decontamination, reports Dublinlive.ie.

A statement from the company said all workers had been asked to undergo testing.

The site in Grangegorman is the East Quad campus, a public-private partnership being built for Technology University Dublin by John Sisk & Son and Spanish company FCC.

Ireland's acting chief medical officer Dr Ronan Glynn said that the Grangegorman site was closed "out of an abundance of caution" because a person who had worked on the Townsend Street site also worked at the Grangegorman site, reports The Irish Times.
