UK construction sector contracted in March

British construction contracted for a second month in a row in March according to data from the IHS MARKIT.

Companies postponing major building projects due to Brexit uncertainity have may have contributed to the the slow in activity.

Housebuilding has continued to grow moderately, but civil engineering and commercial projects declined.

“Brexit-related uncertainty continued to generate indecisiveness, ultimately hitting order book volumes,” Joe Hayes, an economist at IHS Markit told Reuters.

Official data recently revealed that UK constrcution output rose just 0.3% in 2018, the weakest in six years.
