VP Technical's project shortlisted for award
Glasgow mansion is brought back from ruin
A restoration project worked on by CIAT's Vice President Technical, Kevin Crawford MCIAT, has been shortlisted for a prestigious Scottish award.
The project, which has breathed new life into a badly run-down listed Victorian mansion, Blairtum House in Rutherglen, Glasgow, has reached the finals of the Scottish Awards for Quality in Planning 2018.
A major challenge was damage caused by a serious fire on the site in 2016 while the project was ongoing, which required extensive rethinking about what could and could not be done with the existing building.
Speaking in a short film on the project, Kevin said 'A lot of hard thought went into it - discussions with the planners, discussions with the client. I was the middle man, saying " I want to keep this building". In the back of my mind there was always the case for taking the building down...but I think we have ended up with a solution that everyone should be happy about.'
The Awards will be held in Edinburgh on 21 November.
